Self-Portrait as Adele Bloch-Bauer // the original painting Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer (Klimt, 1907) is somewhat of an anomaly... While the portrait does follow Klimt's aesthetic style, this painting is a stately, poised portrait showing Adele in golden splendor, staring the viewer directly in the eye with a knowing, powerful gaze, NOT contorted or in an erotic or sexually demeaning pose, which Klimt was notoriously well-known for. I feel he dances quite tauntingly along the border ofcelebrating feminine beauty and objectification, many times falling blatantly to one side of it.
